Are you looking to maximize the carrying capacity of your Ford Transit Connect van? Adding a heavy-duty roof rack system is one of the most effective ways to increase your commercial vehicle’s versatility, allowing you to easily and safely transport long equipment, ladders, and bulky materials. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll walk you through the exact process of fitting a set of ULTI Bar+ roof bars to your Ford Transit Connect, ensuring a secure, professional-grade installation.

What You’ll Need for Installation

Before climbing up to begin the setup, let’s gather the necessary tools and components to ensure a smooth workflow:

ULTI Bar+ roof bars kit (Ford Transit Connect specific)

Necessary basic hand tools (spanners, screwdrivers, and Allen keys as specified in your kit)

A step ladder and a clean, well-lit working area

Once your workspace is prepped, let’s dive into the step-by-step installation process.

1. Assessing the Van Roof

Start by examining the roof of your Ford Transit Connect to identify the optimal placement for the roof bars. Take note of the factory-drilled mounting points and ensure the roof surface is clear of any dirt or debris that might interfere with a flush fit.

Ford Transit Custom H2 Mounting Points – How to Fit a Roof Rack to a High Roof Transit Custom

One of the most common questions we receive is how to fit a roof rack to a Ford Transit Custom High Roof (H2). Unlike the standard H1 model, the H2 doesn’t have obvious roof rack fixing points visible on the roof, which can leave owners wondering where the roof rack should be mounted.

The good news is that Ford has already marked the correct mounting positions for you. Every Ford Transit Custom H2 is equipped with six factory-marked mounting locations built into the roof structure, making it possible to safely fit vehicle-specific roof bars and roof racks.

Where Are the Roof Rack Mounting Points on a Ford Transit Custom H2?

The Ford Transit Custom High Roof (H2) uses six reinforced roof rack mounting points. These are identified by small circular dimples pressed into the roof panel during manufacture.

There are three mounting positions on each side of the roof. These dimples indicate exactly where compatible roof rack systems should be installed.

At first glance it can appear that you’ll need to measure up the roof and determine the fixing locations yourself, but the factory dimples remove the guesswork and ensure the roof rack is positioned correctly.

Ford Transit Custom H2 roof rack mounting point locations.

Do You Need to Drill a Ford Transit Custom H2 Roof?

Yes. Most Ford Transit Custom H2 roof rack systems require drilling at the six factory-marked mounting positions. The reinforced fixing locations are designed specifically for this purpose and are used by manufacturers such as Rhino Products and Van Guard.

All compatible roof racks and roof bars are supplied with vehicle-specific fitting kits and detailed installation instructions, making it straightforward to locate and prepare the fixing points correctly.

Ford Transit Custom H2 Roof Racks and Roof Bars

We supply a wide range of roof bars and roof racks specifically designed for the Ford Transit Custom 2013-2023 High Roof (H2).

Whether you’re looking for lightweight roof bars for ladders and pipe carriers or a full aluminium roof rack with a rear roller, we stock solutions from leading manufacturers including Rhino Products and Van Guard.

Why Should I Fit a Rear Roller to My Van?

When outfitting a commercial vehicle with roof bars or a full roof rack, there is one essential accessory that often gets overlooked: the rear roller. If you want to keep your fleet in pristine condition while significantly speeding up your daily loading and unloading times, adding a heavy-duty van rear roller is a must-have upgrade.

1. Protect Your Van from Costly Damage

Loading heavy materials, timber, or extension ladders from the back of a vehicle is the easiest way to cause accidental cosmetic damage. Without a rear ladder roller, lifting items high enough to clear the roof edge is a physical struggle. Inevitably, cargo scrapes and dents the rear doors and roof line. This doesn’t just look untidy—it scratches through the paintwork, exposing bare metal to the elements and leading to rust. A roller protects your van’s resale value by providing a smooth, safe pivot point for your cargo.

2. Save Time, Energy, and Physical Strain

A rear roller transforms loading into a seamless, one-person job. Instead of awkwardly lifting and shuffling bulky items across your roof bars, the roller allows materials to slide effortlessly into position. Whether you are handling heavy sheet materials or long pipes, a roller drastically reduces physical strain on the job site, prevents injuries, and gets you moving to your next destination much faster.

3. Simple, Straightforward Installation

Fitting a rear roller to your existing setup is incredibly easy and typically takes around 30 minutes. However, it is important to note that rollers are manufacturer-specific and vehicle-model-specific. For instance, if you have Rhino roof bars, you will need a matching Rhino rear roller tailored to your exact van model to ensure a secure, perfect fit.

To complete the installation, you generally only need basic hand tools:

10mm spanner or socket

13mm spanner or socket
